DC Motor is considered as an important component in area of research, industry and laboratory experiments because of its simplicity, low cost and efficiency. Any given piece of industrial equipment may have its speed change or adjusted mechanically by means of step pulley, sets of change gears, variable speed friction clutch mechanics and other mechanical devices.
The electrical speed control has much economical as well as engineering advantage over mechanical speed control. The speed of the motor can be controlled by three methods that are-
1. Terminal voltage control
2. Armature rheostat control method and
3. Flux control method.
Here in this paper, terminal voltage control method is employed. Here we are trying to control the speed and direction of permanent magnet DC motor using the interfacing devices.
PMDC motor have some advantages over other types of DC motors. They are :
PMDC motor is extensively used where small DC motors are required and also very effective control is not required, such as in automobiles starter, toys, wipers, washers, hot blowers, air conditioners, computer disc drives and in many more.
